In August of 1981, CJ Logging and Sawmill Supplies was started out of a small garage on the East Road in Boonville, NY, a joint effort between Mark, his wife Linda, and Gary Bourgeois along with their mother, Janet. The business started as a chainsaw dealer with Husqvarna.
The name "CJ Logging" was the idea of Linda Bourgeois, who suggested that the business be named after Mark and Gary's grandfather, Carl James "CJ" Bourgeois. The original location of the business was an old garage previously owned by CJ Bourgeois.
In 1984 CJ's incorporated and changed their name to CJ Logging Equipment Inc.
In 1986 CJ Logging Equipment moved its large equipment repair operation to a new lot in Boonville's Industrial Park, which housed no other tenants at the time. A 30 foot by 50 foot steel building was built, which was necessary to house the growing business
In 1987 3B Timber Company, Inc., was created. Learning from now defunct Notch Pole and Timber Company, the company specialized in pole peeling, and was housed adjacent to CJ Logging Equipment in Boonville's Industrial Park. Gary Bourgeois devoted most of his time to that company.
The 1990's was a decade of expansion and advancement at CJ Logging. A new office building was built at the industrial park, and was moved there from its original location on the front porch of Mark and Linda's residence.
In 1993, Mark recognized that the forestry industry was going mechanized, and acquired the franchise for Timbco, and shortly after, Tigercat.
A DBA arrangement was created for another company, CJ Motor Sports, in July 1997, which added snowmobiles, ATVs, and other small equipment to CJ's line of offerings. In 2012, Motor Sports moved from its original location to a newly refurbished facility adjacent to the CJ Logging Equipment in the industrial park. Today, CJ Motor Sports franchises include Husqvarna, Can-Am, Ski-Do, Kawasaki, and more.
In October of 2012, CJ's bought the remaining assets of Lyons Equipment with their locations in Little Valley, NY and Allenwood, PA. These two locations are operated by CJ Logging Equipment today.
In 2015, Mark bought his brother’s interest in the company to become the sole owner, but CJ Logging Equipment is still a family business.
CJ Logging Equipment Inc., is operated throughout the northeast, with locations in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire. Over the years the company has also had locations in Vermont.
Today, CJ Logging has remained involved in many organizations, shows, and charities, including the NYS Woodsmen's Field Days, and Log-A-Load for Kids.
Since celebrating our 40th anniversary, CJ Logging Equipment remains dedicated to supporting its customers, and offering top of the line services.
